RESUMO

To investigate the role of co-stimulatory and co-inhibitory molecules on immune tolerance in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), this study mapped the immune cell heterogeneity in the bone marrow of ITP at the single-cell level using Cytometry by Time of Flight (CyTOF). Thirty-six patients with ITP and nine healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. As soluble immunomodulatory molecules, more sCD25 and sGalectin-9 were detected in ITP patients. On the cell surface, co-stimulatory molecules like ICOS and HVEM were observed to be upregulated in mainly central memory and effector T cells. In contrast, co-inhibitory molecules such as CTLA-4 were significantly reduced in Th1 and Th17 cell subsets. Taking a platelet count of 30×109 L-1 as the cutoff value, ITP patients with high and low platelet counts showed different T cell immune profiles. Antigen-presenting cells such as monocytes and B cells may regulate the activation of T cells through CTLA-4/CD86 and HVEM/BTLA interactions, respectively, and participate in the pathogenesis of ITP. In conclusion, the proteomic and soluble molecular profiles brought insight into the interaction and modulation of immune cells in the bone marrow of ITP. They may offer novel targets to develop personalized immunotherapies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to analyze myopic regression after corneal refractive surgery (CRS) in civilian pilots and to explore the factors that may cause long-term myopic regression. METHODS: We included civilian pilots who had undergone CRS to correct their myopia and who had at least 5 years of follow-up. We collected retrospective data and completed eye examinations and a questionnaire to assess their eye habits. RESULTS: A total of 236 eyes were evaluated in this study. 211 eyes had Intrastromal ablations (167 eyes had laser in situ keratomileusis, LASIK, 44 eyes had small incision lenticule extraction, SMILE) and 25 eyes had subepithelial ablations (15 eyes had laser epithelial keratomileusis, LASEK and 10 eyes had photorefractive keratectomy, PRK). The mean preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) was - 2.92 ± 1.11 D (range from - 1.00 to -5.00 D). A total of 56 eyes (23.6%) suffered from myopic regression after CRS. Comparisons of individual and eye characteristics between the regression and non-regression groups revealed statistically significant differences in age, cumulative flight time, postoperative SE (at 6 months and current), uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), accommodative amplitude (AA), positive relative accommodation (PRA), postoperative period, types of CRS and eye habits. Generalized propensity score weighting (GPSW) was used to balance the distribution of covariates among different age levels, types of CRS, cumulative flying time, postoperative period and continuous near-work time. The results of GPS weighted logistic regression demonstrated that the associations between age and myopic regression, types of CRS and myopic regression, continuous near-work time and myopic regression were significant. Cumulative flying time and myopic regression, postoperative period and myopic regression were no significant. Specifically, the odds ratio (OR) for age was 1.151 (P = 0.022), and the OR for type of CRS was 2.769 (P < 0.001). The OR for continuous near-work time was 0.635 with a P value of 0.038. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report to analyze myopic regression after CRS in civilian pilots. Our study found that for each year increase in age, the risk of civilian pilots experiencing myopic regression was increased. Intrastromal ablations had a lower risk of long-term myopia regression than subepithelial ablations. There is a higher risk of myopic progression with continuous near-work time > 45 min and poor accommodative function may be related factors in this specific population.

RESUMO

The spatial resolution attainable in diffusion magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is inherently limited by noise. The weaker signal associated with a smaller voxel size, especially at a high level of diffusion sensitization, is often buried under the noise floor owing to the non-Gaussian nature of the MR magnitude signal. Here, we show how the noise floor can be suppressed remarkably via optimal shrinkage of singular values associated with noise in complex-valued k-space data from multiple receiver channels. We explore and compare different low-rank signal matrix recovery strategies to utilize the inherently redundant information from multiple channels. In combination with background phase removal, the optimal strategy reduces the noise floor by 11 times. Our framework enables imaging with substantially improved resolution for precise characterization of tissue microstructure and white matter pathways without relying on expensive hardware upgrades and time-consuming acquisition repetitions, outperforming other related denoising methods.

RESUMO

Antiangiogenic therapy is an effective way to disrupt nutrient supply and starve tumors, but it is restricted by poor efficacy and negative feedback-induced tumor relapse. In this study, a neuropilin-1 (NRP-1)-targeted nanomedicine (designated as FPPT@Axi) is reported for spatiotemporal tumor suppression by combining photodynamic therapy (PDT) with antiangiogenesis. In brief, FPPT@Axi is prepared by utilizing an NRP-1-targeting chimeric peptide (Fmoc-K(PpIX)-PEG8-TKPRR) to encapsulate the antiangiogenic drug Axitinib (Axi). Importantly, the NRP-1-mediated targeting property enables FPPT@Axi to selectively concentrate at vascular endothelial and breast cancer cells, facilitating the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in situ for specific vascular disruption and enhanced cell apoptosis under light stimulation. Moreover, the codelivered Axi can further inhibit vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) to impair the negative feedback of PDT-induced tumor neovascularization. Consequently, FPPT@Axi spatiotemporally restrains the tumor growth through blocking angiogenesis, destroying tumor vessels, and inducing tumor apoptosis. Such an NRP-1-mediated targeting codelivery system sheds light on constructing an appealing candidate with translational potential by using clinically approved PDT and chemotherapy.

RESUMO

The efficacy of temozolomide (TMZ) treatment in glioblastoma (GBM) is influenced by various mechanisms, mainly including the level of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) and the activity of DNA damage repair (DDR) pathways. In our previous study, we had proved that long non-coding RNA HOTAIR regulated the GBM progression and mediated DDR by interacting with EZH2, the catalytic subunit of PRC2. In this study, we developed a small-molecule inhibitor called EPIC-0628 that selectively disrupted the HOTAIR-EZH2 interaction and promoted ATF3 expression. The upregulation of ATF3 inhibited the recruitment of p300, p-p65, p-Stat3 and SP1 to the MGMT promoter. Hence, EPIC-0628 silenced MGMT expression. Besides, EPIC-0628 induced cell cycle arrest by increasing the expression of CDKN1A and impaired DNA double-strand break repair via suppressing the ATF3-p38-E2F1 pathway. Lastly, EPIC-0628 enhanced TMZ efficacy in GBM in vitro and vivo. Hence, this study provided evidence for the combination of epigenetic drugs EPIC-0628 with TMZ for GBM treatment through the above mechanisms.

RESUMO

Current therapeutic strategies for chronic refractory wounds remain challenge owing to their unfavorable wound microenvironment and poor skin regeneration ability. Thus far, a regimen for effective chronic refractory wounds management involves bacterial elimination, alleviation of oxidative stress, inhibition of inflammatory response, and promotion of angiogenesis. In this work, an injectable glycopeptide hydrogel based on phenylboronic acid-grafted ϵ-polylysine (EPBA) and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) with pH/reactive oxygen species (ROS) dual-responsive properties was prepared, which exerted intrinsic antibacterial and antioxidant properties. ROS-responsive micelles (MIC) loaded with herb-derived Astragaloside IV (AST) are introduced into the hydrogel before gelation. Attributed to the acidic condition and oxidative stress microenvironment of wound bed, the hydrogel gradually disintegrates, and the released EPBA could help to eliminate bacterial. Meanwhile, the subsequential release of AST could help to achieve anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, proangiogenic effects, and regulation of macrophage polarization to accelerate chronic wound healing. In addition, the wound repair mechanism of composite hydrogel accelerating skin regeneration was assessed by RNA-sequencing, exploring a range of potential targets and pathway for further study. Collectively, this multifunctional hydrogel dressing, matching different healing stages of tissue remodeling, holds a great potential for the treatment of chronic refractory wounds.

RESUMO

The Chinese central government has initiated pilot projects to promote the adoption of gasoline containing 10%v ethanol (E10). Vehicle emissions using ethanol blended fuels require investigation to estimate the environmental impacts of the initiative. Five fuel formulations were created using two blending methods (splash blending and match blending) to evaluate the impacts of formulations on speciated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from exhaust emissions. Seven in-use vehicles covering China 4 to China 6 emission standards were recruited. Vehicle tests were conducted using the Worldwide Harmonized Test Cycle (WLTC) in a temperature-controlled chamber at 23 °C and -7 °C. Splash blended E10 fuels led to significant reductions in VOC emissions by 12%-75%. E10 fuels had a better performance of reducing VOC emissions in older model vehicles than in newer model vehicles. These results suggested that E10 fuel could be an option to mitigate the VOC emissions. Although replacing methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) with ethanol in regular gasoline had no significant effects on VOC emissions, the replacement led to lower aromatic emissions by 40%-60%. Alkanes and aromatics dominated approximately 90% of VOC emissions for all vehicle-fuel combinations. Cold temperature increased VOC emissions significantly, by 3-26 folds for all vehicle/fuel combinations at -7 °C. Aromatic emissions were increased by cold temperature, from 2 to 26 mg/km at 23 °C to 33-238 mg/km at -7 °C. OVOC emissions were not significantly affected by E10 fuel or cold temperature. The ozone formation potential (OFP) and secondary organic aerosol formation potential (SOAFP) of splash blended E10 fuels decreased by up to 76% and 81%, respectively, compared with those of E0 fuels. The results are useful to update VOC emission profiles of Chinese vehicles using ethanol blended gasoline and under low-temperature conditions.

RESUMO

We present a wide-field illumination time-domain (TD) diffusion optical tomography (DOT) for three-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction within a shallow region under the illuminated surface of the turbid medium. The methodological foundation is laid on the single-pixel spatial frequency domain (SFD) imaging that facilitates the adoption of the well-established time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC)-based TD detection and generalized pulse spectrum techniques (GPST)-based reconstruction. To ameliorate the defects of the conventional diffusion equation (DE) in the forward modeling of TD-SFD-DOT, mainly the low accuracy in the near-field region and in profiling early-photon migration, we propose a modified model employing the time-dependent δ-P1 approximation and verify its improved accuracy in comparison with both the Monte Carlo and DE-based ones. For a simplified inversion process, a modified GPST approach is extended to TD-SFD-DOT that enables the effective separation of the absorption and scattering coefficients using a steady-state equivalent strategy. Furthermore, we set up a single-pixel TD-SFD-DOT system that employs the TCSPC-based TD detection in the SFD imaging framework. For assessments of the reconstruction approach and the system performance, phantom experiments are performed for a series of scenarios. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed methodology for rapid 3-D reconstruction of the absorption and scattering coefficients within a depth range of about 5 mean free pathlengths.

RESUMO

The human cerebellum is engaged in a broad array of tasks related to motor coordination, cognition, language, attention, memory, and emotional regulation. A detailed cerebellar atlas can facilitate the investigation of the structural and functional organization of the cerebellum. However, existing cerebellar atlases are typically limited to a single imaging modality with insufficient characterization of tissue properties. Here, we introduce a multifaceted cerebellar atlas based on high-resolution multimodal MRI, facilitating the understanding of the neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration of the cerebellum based on cortical morphology, tissue microstructure, and intra-cerebellar and cerebello-cerebral connectivity.

RESUMO

This study investigated the concentrations of atmospheric pollutants in the urban area of Suzhou from May to June, 2017-2021. The variation characteristics and annual changes of ozone (O3), nitrogen oxide (NOx), total oxidant (Ox), carbon monoxide (CO), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were analyzed. The O3 formation mechanism and its annual changes were studied using an Observation-Based Model (OBM), and VOCs source apportionments and their trends were discussed. The results indicated that ① The volume fractions of Ox and the concentrations of NOx and CO have decreased in the urban area of Suzhou in recent years, while the volume fractions of VOCs have increased, and sufficient photochemical conditions for O3 formation still existed during polluted days. ② The O3-NOx-VOCs sensitivity in Suzhou was in the VOCs-limited regime. The long-term reduction ratio between VOCs and NOx should not be less than 5:1, and aromatics and alkenes were the critical VOCs for mitigating O3 pollution. ③ The results of VOCs source apportionment revealed that industrial emissions, gasoline vehicle exhaust, and diesel engine exhaust were the major sources of VOC emissions in Suzhou. Industrial emissions and solvent usage declined from 2017 to 2021; however, gasoline vehicle exhaust and gasoline evaporation, which possess higher O3 formation potential(OFP), increased significantly. ④ The OFP source apportionments results indicated that controlling VOC emissions from solvent usage and gasoline vehicle exhaust is crucial for O3 pollution control in Suzhou.

RESUMO

Mulberry (Morus alba L.), a kind of common fruits widely cultivated worldwide, has been proven various biological activities. However, its potential role in the progression of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the potential protective effects of crude polysaccharide extracted from mulberry fruit, referred to as a complex blend of polysaccharides and other unidentified extracted impurities, on KOA progression. The KOA rats were established by injection of 1 mg sodium monoiodoacetate into knee, and administrated with crude mulberry polysaccharide (Mup) by gastric gavage for 4 weeks. Furthermore, intestinal bacteria clearance assay (IBCA) and fecal microbiota transplantation were conducted for the evaluation of the effect of gut microbiota (GM) on KOA. Our findings demonstrated that Mup, particularly at a dosage of 200 mg/kg, effectively improved abnormal gait patterns, reduced the level of inflammation, mitigated subchondral bone loss, restored compromised joint surfaces, alleviated cartilage destruction, and positively modulated the dysregulated profile of GM in KOA rats. Moreover, IBCA compromised the protective effects of Mup, while transplantation of fecal bacteria from Mup-treated rats facilitated KOA recovery. Collectively, our study suggested that Mup had the potential to ameliorate the progression of KOA, potentially through its modulation of GM profile.

RESUMO

AIMS: To evaluate microstructural impairment in the thalamus and thalamocortical connectivity using neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). METHODS: This study included 47 healthy controls and 43 ALS patients, whose structural and diffusion-weighted data were collected. We used state-of-the-art parallel transport tractography to identify thalamocortical pathways in individual spaces. Thalamus was then parcellated into six subregions based on its connectivity pattern with the priori defined cortical (i.e., prefrontal/motor/somatosensory/temporal/posterior-parietal/occipital) regions. For each of the thalamic and cortical subregions and thalamo-cortical tracts, we compared the following NODDI metrics between groups: orientation dispersion index (ODI), neurite density index (NDI), and isotropic volume fraction (ISO). We also used these metrics to conduct receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analyses and Spearman correlation. RESULTS: In ALS patients, we found decreased ODI and increased ISO in the thalamic subregion connecting the left motor cortex and other extramotor (e.g., somatosensory and occipital) cortex (Bonferroni-corrected p < 0.05). NDI decreased in the bilateral thalamo-motor and thalamo-somatosensory tracts and in the right thalamo-posterior-parietal and thalamo-occipital tracts (Bonferroni-corrected p < 0.05). NDI reduction in the bilateral thalamo-motor tract (p = 0.017 and 0.009) and left thalamo-somatosensory tract (p = 0.029) was correlated with disease severity. In thalamo-cortical tracts, NDI yielded a higher effect size during between-group comparisons and a greater area under ROC (p < 0.05) compared with conventional diffusion tensor imaging metrics. CONCLUSIONS: Microstructural impairment in the thalamus and thalamocortical connectivity is the hallmark of ALS. NODDI improved the detection of disrupted thalamo-cortical connectivity in ALS.

RESUMO

Background: Asymptomatic neurocognitive impairment (ANI) is the mildest form of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated neurocognitive disorders (HANDs), and functional connectivity strength (FCS) alternations have been observed in the ANI stage. However, it is not clear whether the FCS alterations are influenced by the anatomical distance. This study sought to investigate distance-specific FCS changes in HIV ANI patients. Methods: In total, 29 patients with HAND and 32 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled in the study. Between-group differences were detected for short, middle and long range anatomical distance FCS. A correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between distance-specific FCS and immunological parameters and neuropsychological tests. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was conducted to examine the discriminative performance for HIV ANI patients. Results: In comparison to the HCs, the HAND patients showed increased short-range FCS in the left inferior parietal lobule (IPL), middle-range FCS in the superior temporal gyrus (STG), long-range FCS in the left precuneus (PCC), and decreased FCS in the right postcentral gyrus (PCG) (cluster P<0.05, voxel significance P<0.001). Further, the long-range FCS in the right PCG was negatively correlated with the CD4/CD8 ratio (r=-0.479, 95% confidence interval (CI): -0.735 to -0.104, P=0.015), and the distance-specific FCS also showed good classification performance between the HAND patients and HCs. The left IPL, left STG, right PCG, and left PCC had areas under the curve (AUCs) of 0.875 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.758-0.949, P<0.0001], 0.806 (95% CI: 0.677-0.900, P<0.0001), 0.855 (95% CI: 0.734-0.935, P<0.0001), and 0.852 (95% CI: 0.754-0.950, P<0.0001), respectively. There was no significant relationship between the distance-specific FCS and the neuropsychological tests. Conclusions: Distance-specific FCS could be used to examine subtle alternations in HIV-infected patients in the ANI stage and help to explain the possible neurophysiological mechanism of HAND.

RESUMO

From 2013 to 2019, a series of air pollution control actions significantly reduced PM2.5 pollution in China. Control actions included changes in activity levels, structural adjustment (SA) policy, energy and material saving (EMS) policy, and end-of-pipe (EOP) control in several sources, which have not been systematically studied in previous studies. Here, we integrate an emission inventory, a chemical transport model, a health impact assessment model, and a scenario analysis to quantify the contribution of each control action across a range of major emission sources to the changes in PM2.5 concentrations and associated mortality in China from 2013 to 2019. Assuming equal toxicity of PM2.5 from all the sources, we estimate that PM2.5-related mortality decreased from 2.52 (95 % confidence interval, 2.13-2.88) to 1.94 (1.62-2.24) million deaths. Anthropogenic emission reductions and declining baseline incidence rates significantly contributed to health benefits, but population aging partially offset their impact. Among the major sources, controls on power plants and industrial boilers were responsible for the highest reduction in PM2.5-related mortality (∼80 %), followed by industrial processes (∼40 %), residential combustion (∼40 %), and transportation (∼30 %). However, considering the potentially higher relative risks of power plant PM2.5, the adverse effects avoided by their control could be ∼2.4 times the current estimation. Our power plant sensitivity analyses indicate that future estimates of source-specific PM2.5 health effects should incorporate variations in individual source PM2.5 effect coefficients when available. As for the control actions, while activity levels increased for most sources, SA policy significantly reduced the emissions in residential combustion and industrial boilers, and EOP control dominated the contribution in health benefits in most sources except residential combustion. Considering the emission reduction potential by source and control actions in 2019, our results suggest that promoting clean energy in residential combustion and enforcing more stringent EOP control in the iron and steel industry should be prioritized in the future.

RESUMO

The tumor-associated glycoprotein Mucin 1 (MUC1) is aberrantly glycosylated on cancer cells and is considered a promising target for antitumor vaccines. The weak immunogenicity and low sequence homology of mouse mucins and human MUC1 are the main obstacles for the development of vaccines. Herein, a self-adjuvanted strategy combining toll-like receptor 2 lipopeptide ligands and T-cell epitopes and the multivalent effect were used to amplify the immune response and evade the unpredictable immunogenicity, generating two self-adjuvanted three-component MUC1 vaccines (mono- and trivalent MUC1 vaccines). To simulate the aberrantly glycosylated MUC1 glycoprotein, the MUC1 tandem repeat peptide was bounded with Tn antigens at T9, S15, and T16, and served as B-cell epitopes. Results showed that both vaccines elicited a robust antibody response in wild-type mice compared with a weaker response in MUC1 transgenic mice. The trivalent vaccine did not elevate the antibody response level compared with the monovalent vaccine; however, a more delayed tumor growth and prolonged survival time was realized in wild-type and transgenic mouse models treated with the trivalent vaccine. These results indicate that the self-adjuvanted three-component MUC1 vaccines, especially the trivalent vaccine, can trigger robust antitumor effects regardless of sequence homology, and, therefore, show promise for clinical translation.

RESUMO

In recent years, the impact of methylation modifications on Dickkopf-1 (DKK1) in relation to ankylosing spondylitis (AS) has remained elusive. Our objective was to investigate the potential link between DKK1 methylation patterns and transcript levels and AS susceptibility. DNA methylation level of DKK1 was measured in 82 AS and 82 healthy controls (HCs) using targeted bisulfite sequencing. In addition, the transcript level of DKK1 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 35 AS patients and 35 HCs was detected using real-time quantitative transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Our study showed that the DKK1 was significantly hypomethylated in AS patients (P < 0.001). The Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) showed that DKK1 methylation may be a potential biomarker. The results showed that the difference in DKK1 transcript levels between AS and HCs was not statistically significant. Further analysis showed that DKK1 methylation levels were positively correlated with age and negatively correlated with C-reactive protein levels, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR). The methylation level of DKK1 in PBMC of AS patients was significantly lower than that of HCs, and DKK1 methylation may be associated with susceptibility to AS. In addition, DNA methylation levels of DKK1 were negatively correlated with the level of inflammation in AS patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Typically, the overexpressed keratin 7 (KRT7) is considered a validated therapeutic target and prognosis marker in bladder cancer. However, the crucial roles of KRT7 in the clinical prognosis and immune microenvironment in bladder cancer remain unclear. METHODS: Initially, the expression levels of KRT7 in public databases were analyzed that is,Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER) 2.0 and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA). Further, the clinical tissue samples from patients (n = 10 pairs) were collected to confirm the expression trends of KRT7 and detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis. Meanwhile, the relationship between KRT7 and the prognosis of bladder cancer patients was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier plotter estimation and Cox regression analysis. Finally, TIMER 2.0 and IHC staining analyses were performed to calculate the infiltration abundances of three kinds of immune cells in eligible bladder tumor samples. RESULTS: The TIMER 2.0 and GEPIA datasets suggested the differences in the expression levels of KRT7 in tumors, in which KRT7 was significantly upregulated in bladder cancer. The KRT7 expression was closely associated with patients' gender, tumor histologic subtypes, T status, and American Joint Committee on Cancer stages. Notably, the increased KRT7 indicated poor overall survival and disease-free survival rates. Moreover, KRT7 expression could be responsible for immune infiltration in the cancer microenvironment of the bladder. Finally, the high expression level of KRT7 increased the presence of regulatory T cells (Tregs) but reduced the infiltration of CD8+ T and natural killer cells. CONCLUSION: KRT7 as a biomarker potentiated the prediction of bladder cancer prognosis and the immune microenvironment.

RESUMO

Diffusion MRI (dMRI) is a safe and noninvasive technique that provides insight into the microarchitecture of brain tissue. Relaxation-diffusion MRI (rdMRI) is an extension of traditional dMRI that captures diffusion imaging data at multiple TEs to detect tissue heterogeneity between relaxation and diffusivity. rdMRI has great potential in neurosurgical research including brain tumor grading and treatment response evaluation. However, the lack of available data has limited the exploration of rdMRI in clinical settings. To address this, we are sharing a high-quality rdMRI dataset from 18 neurosurgical patients with different types of lesions, as well as two healthy individuals as controls. The rdMRI data was acquired using 7 TEs, where at each TE multi-shell dMRI with high spatial and angular resolutions is obtained at each TE. Each rdMRI scan underwent thorough artifact and distortion corrections using a specially designed processing pipeline. The dataset's quality was assessed using standard practices, including quality control and assurance. This resource is a valuable addition to neurosurgical studies, and all data are openly accessible.

RESUMO

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) have been detected in various environmental media and human tissues. PBDEs concentrations in dust from college buildings and homes and in paired hair and urine samples from students were determined. This is of great significance to explore the accumulation and excretion patterns of PBDEs in the human body. The median PBDEs concentrations in the dust (College: 84.59 ng/g; Home: 170.32 ng/g) and hair (undergraduate: 6.16 ng/g; Home: 3.25 ng/g) samples were generally lower than were found in the majority of previous studies. The PBDEs concentrations in the hair and urine samples were subjected to principal component analysis, and the results combined with the PBDEs detection rates confirmed that hair is a useful non-invasive sampling medium for assessing PBDEs exposure and the risks posed. Body mass indices (BMIs) were used to divide students who had not been exposed to large amounts of PBDEs into groups. Body fat percentage is an important factor affecting the accumulation of PBDE in the human body. Environmental factors were found to affect the PBDEs concentrations in the hair and urine samples less for normal-weight students (BMI≤24) than overweight students (BMI>24). Short-term environmental changes to more readily affect the PBDEs concentrations in the tissues of the normal-weight than overweight students. PBDEs with seven or more bromine substituents were found not to be readily excreted in urine. Performing molecular docking simulations of the binding of isomers BDE-99 and BDE-100 to megalin. The binding energy was higher for BDE-100 and megalin than for BDE-99 and megalin, meaning BDE-99 would be more readily excreted than BDE-100.
